IC INFORMATION
Character Name: Goro
Canon: Mortal Kombat
Canon Point: Between MKX and 11, after his death.
Background: https://mortalkombat.fandom.com/wiki/Goro/Alternate_Timeline
There is some conjecture involved, as the comics were canceled before Goro’s plotline could be resolved, but dialogue in MK11’s Story Mode, and pre-fight dialogue with Sheeva implies that Goro did somehow manage to imbue himself with the power of Onaga, regenerating his arms. He then went on a rampage, attempting to reclaim his throne by force, attacking the Shokan he believed had forsaken him. However, it appears he was defeated, and suffered grievous wounds that caused him to flee, finding his way back to Shang Tsung’s island, long since abandoned. Taking refuge in the caverns that had once been his lair, he died of his wounds. During the events of Mortal Kombat 11, an indeterminate amount of time later, his long-decayed corpse was discovered by the team of Earthrrealm warriors sent there, seated upon his throne.

Arrival Scenario: I would like Goro to return to Cadens and the Free Cities.

Suitability: Coming back to Abraxas, Goro has lost everything, both here and in Abraxas. His powerbase in the Free Cities has evaporated in the time he’s been gone (and he may not be remembered fondly by most), and he has lost the things that he defined himself by. He is no longer Prince of the Shokan, his father is dead, and above all that, he died what he views an unworthy death, alone and forgotten in the dark. It is this last aspect that will form the basis of Goro’s motivation in the last few months of Abraxas; he wants to die a proper, warrior’s death. He has nothing else.

Fortunately, the means by which he might achieve this exist; during his first time, Goro, perhaps somewhat paradoxically, came to greatly respect Wanda Maximoff, the Scarlet Witch, a sentiment that she returned. He came to view her as an enemy worthy of respect, an enemy on par with the Great Kung Lao, and attempted to impart upon her his views on the nature of morality and how it related to the use of power. It became a goal of his to fight Wanda to the death, seeing her as a worthy challenge, and an opponent who he could respect losing his life to. Wanda is still in Abraxas, and so Goro will seek her out to make good on that. He’ll need some time to get his mind clear and ready for the fight, and will use that time to ensure he’s physically ready too, which will make him more receptive to working with other summoned. His previous ambitions regarding the Free Cities and the Singularity are abandoned, so he won’t seek to do any warmongering or rabble-rousing. He just wants to be ready for the fight.

My hope is a month or two before the game closes, Kira and I can thread out Wanda and Goro’s fight. He doesn’t intend to simply hand her the win; she has to earn his death, but the idea is that Goro will die at her hands. I should also note that I have discussed this with Kira, as finishing Goro and Wanda’s story is something we’d both very much like to do, and she is on-board with this idea.

Powers: His four arms are his most noticeable power, and like all Shokan, Goro’s strength and speed are above that of a normal human. Being a Shokan of the aristocratic Draco lineage (as opposed to the Tigrar strain that make up the commonfolk of his people), Goro has dragon blood in his veins which allows him to breathe fire. His other notable power is his classic jump attack, where he leaps high into the air and bring his immense bulk down on his opponent. While not “powers” per se, Goro has developed a fighting style based around using his four arms, size and immense strength to overwhelm opponents, and usually forgoes weapons outside of a set of Dragon Fang bracelets, mounted on each of his four wrists, that allow Goro to deploy retractable wrist blades against his enemies. Goro would seek to have a new set of Dragon Fangs constructed after he is settled in the Free Cities.

PERSONALITY QUESTIONS

Describe an important event in your character's life and how it impacted them.
Replacing his original answer of his defeat by Liu Kang, Goro's new answer is his maiming at the hands of Kotal Kahn. First, he was denied a proper warrior's death, and for a Shokan to lose all his arms is seen as the ultimate mark of shame and dishonour in their society. That King Gorbak not only embraced his son but then led the Shokan to war against Kotal over it, was the straw that destroyed whatever remained of their respect for Goro, as many Shokan warriors died in vain to defend a cripple. This set him on the path to find Daegon and being imbued with Onaga’s power, and ultimately, his death, which will form the basis of his motivation during Abraxas’ finale.

Does your character have a moral code, or other set of standards they try to live by?
Goro does keep to a code of honour, but Outworld notions of honour are less concerned with personal integrity and more concerned with conduct in battle, and excuse a fair amount of brutality. Shokan values also forbid acts of mercy in battle, and against opponents. Goro also views his primary responsibility to the Shokan, his people that he imagines he will one day rule, and as a result will always move to act in what he thinks are their best interests, even if it means breaking alliances is forswearing oaths.

That said, his devotion to his people is also conditional on his rank and status being acknowledged and honoured by them. When the Shokan turned against him after his mutilation and Gorbak’s death, Goro swore he would reap bloody vengeance on the disloyal, and vowed to show no mercy. This would appear to be borne out by Sheeva in MK11, who confirms that after gaining Onaga’s power, Goro did go on a rampage and killed his own people in retaliation for turning against him. In Goro’s eyes, it was the Shokan who betrayed him, and thus he was justified in turning against them to retake his throne, even though it was his own actions and betrayals that led to his maiming.
What quality or qualities do they admire most? He respects those who fight well, and die with dignity (he views the Great Kung Lao in this manner, considering it an honour to have fought him, and a privilege to have killed him). Cowards or whiners are cretins who deserve no respect or a clean death (which is seen as a mark of respect, not mercy, for a beaten opponent). As prince of the Shokan, he also looks more favourably on those who treat him with what he considers to be the proper amount of deference and respect, which he will return in kind.

Do they have a part of themselves they dislike?
Despite his attempts to rein himself in (which over the years have been half-hearted at best), Goro retains a hedonistic streak, or as his replacement to the Shokan throne Queen Sheeva would contemptuously state of him later, that he chases every impulse that runs down his spine, be that fine food, combat, pleasurable company or other luxuries. While it isn’t the impulses themselves he objects to, it’s that such tendencies can leave him open to manipulation and danger.

What is their sign, and why? Goro will switch from his original Sign of The Chariot to that of The Hanged Man to represent his changed circumstances. He was shunned by his people after King Gorbak's death, and lost his claim to the throne. Gorbak's successor as ruler of the Shokan, Sheeva, speaks disdainfully of Goro during the storymode of MK11, suggesting that even after his Onaga-fueled rampage and attempt to reclaim his throne, he still regarded as a failure by the Shokan at large. His reputation, or what remains of it in the Free Cities, is also probably not popular as he was a strong proponent of the war, and not popular among the other summoned who resided there at the time for his anti-magic and anti-Singularity beliefs.
